Vortex VTX3 for mass flow and energy computing

The Bopp & Reuther VTX3 is a high-performance vortex shedding flowmeter for compressed air and steam measurement. It is engineered for industrial measurement of liquids, gases, and steam with Fully integrated internal P and T sensors directly inside the meter body and inbuilt Mass flow and direct net heat / energy computing.

It is widely utilised across processing plants, energy networks, and utilities to deliver accurate, long-term flow metrics under demanding pressure and temperature conditions.

Product Models

The VTX3 line features a modular design available in four primary physical configurations:
VTX3 Flange VersionThe standard inline model equipped with rugged, integrated flanges (DIN/ANSI). It is ideal for permanent, heavy-duty piping systems.
VTX3 Sandwich VersionA lightweight, wafer-style alternative designed to be clamped securely between existing pipeline flanges, minimising footprint and installation costs.
VTX3 Dual VersionA highly redundant system containing two independent flow sensors and two electronics housings on a single process connection for safety-critical tasks.
VTX3 W Remote VersionA split configuration separating the inline flow sensor (SV18) from the signal converter (KV18) by up to 50 meters, protecting the electronics from high heat or strong pipeline vibrations.

Working Principle

The VTX3 operates on the Kármán vortex street principle:
  1. A stationary bluff body (strut) is placed directly inside the flow stream.
  2. As fluid passes this body, it creates alternating low-pressure vortices downstream.
  3. The frequency of these shedding vortices is directly proportional to the fluid velocity.
  4. A highly sensitive piezoelectric sensor detects these pressure pulses, and the integrated transmitter converts the frequency into an accurate flow rate reading.

Industrial Applications

Steam & Energy ManagementMeasuring saturated and superheated steam consumption for industrial boilers, custody transfer, and heating networks.
Compressed Air SystemsMonitoring compressed air distribution lines to spot leaks, audit efficiency, and allocate facility costs.
Industrial GasesPrecise tracking of inert, natural, or process gases (such as nitrogen, argon, carbon dioxide) across manufacturing lines.
Utility FluidsVolumetric and mass flow billing for demineralized water, industrial hot water, heat-transfer oils, and low-viscosity chemicals.
