Centrifugal Gas Separator

The Bopp & Reuther Centrifugal Gas Separator actively purifies liquid process streams. Entrained air or gas bubbles often distort downstream volumetric or mass flow measurements. Therefore, this heavy-duty pressure vessel separates and vents gas pockets before they hit your meters. The mechanical design accommodates a broad range of temperatures, pressures, and flow capacities. Consequently, it guarantees flawless, fiscal-grade billing accuracy across your production lines.

Compact Density Unit Measuring Device CDU

Bopp & Reuther density measuring devices (CDU unit configurations) are custom-engineered, bypass-configured density measurement assemblies. Built as an alternative to simple standalone sensors, the “CDU” setup functions as a complete Continuous Density Unit (or Compact Density Unit). It integrates a high-precision DIMF series sensor with specialised modular bypass instrumentation to ensure highly stable, temperature-compensated, and flow-regulated liquid measurement directly adjacent to the main process pipeline.

Compact Orifice Oriflow

The Bopp & Reuther Oriflow Compact Orifice is an advanced, high-performance differential pressure flowmeter designed for industrial applications. It seamlessly integrates a differential pressure sensor, multi-way valve manifold, and an attached transmitter into a unified, wafer-style “sandwich” body. Engineered for demanding industrial environments, this robust device eliminates the need for external impulse lines, providing space-saving and leak-free flow, volume, and mass tracking under even the most extreme process conditions.

The Oriflow platform is divided into 12 specialised models to fit distinct media specifications, installation dimensions, and pressure profiles:
  • Standard Series: Models D, O, and U (Most common variants for general process control and gaseous loops).
  • Specialised Material & Geometry Series: Models G, I, L, M, N, S, T, and Z.
  • High-End Precision Variant: The ORIKON model.

Choosing a flow meter: start with the fluid

No single flow meter suits every duty. The right one depends on the fluid (water, oil, fuel, gas, steam), on whether it conducts electricity, on its viscosity, and on what you need from the reading: a local indication, a control signal, a fiscal total or a mass flow. The table groups the range PIC supplies by measuring principle, so you can narrow the choice before looking at individual products.

Flow meter technologies PIC supplies

Technology Measures Suits Products
Positive displacement Volume, by filling and emptying chambers Oils, fuels, additives and other clean liquids, including viscous ones; dosing and batching Bopp & Reuther oval wheel meters; Trigear TG gear meters
Turbine Volume, from rotor speed Low to medium viscosity liquids at high pressure; custody transfer Bopp & Reuther RQ
Electromagnetic Velocity of a conductive liquid Water, waste water and other conductive liquids; no pressure drop Bopp & Reuther SpiraMAG; Aplisens PEM-1000
Vortex Velocity, from vortex shedding Liquids, gases and vapours Bopp & Reuther VTX2, VTX3
Coriolis Mass flow, density and temperature Liquids and gases where mass, not volume, matters Bopp & Reuther FMO
Differential pressure Pressure drop across an orifice, nozzle or pitot tube Liquids, gases and steam in closed pipes and ducts, including large lines Bopp & Reuther Oriflow; Aplisens ZPK nozzle, PRP pitot tube
Variable area (rotameter) Float height in a tapered tube Local indication, low flows, dosing, sprinkler testing Influx Fluxline, Uniflux, LPL, iMT, Firesure
Energy measurement Flow plus supply and return temperature Heating and chilled water billing, steam energy Ultrakon (ultrasonic), Epykon (electromagnetic), Autarkon (DP), ERW 700
Fuel oil and fuel performance Fuel consumption, viscosity, engine power Boilers, burners, generators, ships and large vehicles Aquametro Contoil, Domino, Viscomaster, FPS
Flow computers and indicators Rate, total, batch, corrected flow Turning a meter's pulses or 4 to 20 mA into totals, batches and energy KEP SUPERtrol II, MINItrol, MINI-Batcher; Bopp & Reuther UR/URS

Density and concentration meters (DIMF) and complete metering skids from Bopp & Reuther complete the range.

How to specify a flow meter

  • The fluid. Liquid, gas or steam; clean or dirty; and for liquids, whether it conducts electricity. A magnetic flow meter needs a conductive liquid, so it suits water but not oils or fuels.
  • Viscosity. Positive displacement meters handle viscous oils well; turbine meters suit low to medium viscosity.
  • What you need from the reading. A local reading points to a variable area meter. Control needs a transmitter output. Billing or custody transfer needs an approved meter, often with a flow computer.
  • Volume or mass. Where the product is sold or dosed by weight, a Coriolis meter measures mass directly.
  • Pipe size and pressure drop. Large lines often use differential pressure or electromagnetic meters, which add little or no obstruction.
  • Tell us. Send the fluid, the flow range, the pipe size, the pressure and temperature, and the output you need, and an engineer will recommend the meter.

Flow meter questions

What is the best flow meter for water?

For water in a closed pipe, an electromagnetic flow meter is usually the first choice: it has no moving parts, no obstruction and no pressure drop, and water conducts well enough for it. Very pure, demineralised water may not, so check the minimum conductivity on the datasheet. How the electromagnetic principle works, and where it fails, is explained in magnetic flow meter. For local indication of small flows, a variable area meter is the simple alternative, and for heating or chilled water billing an energy measuring system adds the temperature difference.

Which flow meter suits oil and fuel?

Positive displacement meters, such as oval wheel and gear meters, measure oils and fuels accurately across a wide viscosity range, which is why they are common in dosing, batching and fuel consumption. Aquametro Contoil meters are built for fuel oil consumption on boilers, generators and ships.

What is the difference between a flow meter and a flow computer?

The flow meter measures the flow and sends a signal, usually pulses or 4 to 20 mA. A flow computer reads that signal, often with temperature and pressure, and calculates totals, batches, corrected volume, mass or energy, then displays and logs them or sends them on to the control system.
