Foam Dectection and Control

Hycontrol Smart Foam to detect and control foam with a single sensor/transmitter in F&B, Paper, Water, Waste Water, Effluent, SludgeThe SmartFoam IMA sensor from Hycontrol, UK is designed to detect and control a wide range of light to dense foams with a single foul-resistant probe. The Suresense+ Controller protects from overflow and blockage, prevents pollution and enables dosing of anti foam agents to reduce cost.

The SmartFoam sensor from Hycontrol, UK is designed to detect and control foam in a single sensor/transmitter unit for basic foam applications in Food Processing, Carbonated Beverages, Brewing, Paper Manufacture, Waste Water & Effluent Treatment and Activated Sludge Tanks.

The SmartFoam IMA sensor and Suresence+ Control Panel is used in Food Processing, Carbonated Beverages, Brewing, Paper Manufacture, Waste Water & Effluent Treatment and Activated Sludge Tanks.

  • protection from foam overflow and blockage
  • reliable, robust and immune to fouling (see graphic)
  • easy to clean and fully weather-proof enclosure
  • saving on anti-foam chemicals in pH dosing adjustment
  • 10 light to dense (watery) foam sensitivity levels
  • stainless steel construction with PVDF insulator, customized sensor insertion length

How it works

IMA foam detection and control system from Hycontrol

The new SmartFoam sensor passes a small alternating current through the foam into the liquid below which responds to the density of the foam. When the measurement passes a pre-set level the sensor then recognises that foam is present.

To avoid false alarms the unique IMA Sensing® technology is able to distinguish the presence of active foam from the build-up of a sticky ‘fouling’ layer on the surface of the sensor by a guard electrode which isolates and compensates for the effect of any fouling layers.
The Sensor has a built-in time delay which can be set between 1 and 4 seconds to reject splashing and other spurious events.

The SmartFoam has a volt-free output which can be connected directly to a PLC or can be used to switch a low voltage signal e.g. 24VDC. The two small indicators in the sensor head show power and foam detection.
